Email slavery ?

How many emails do you have in your inbox ? How many need to be sorted or read ? How many of them are linked to an action ?

I currently have more than 200 emails, receiving more than 30 a days (without spamming), with 40% action request and the rest just fyi or cc…I know what you gonna say : ‘only 200 ???”, well my friends, I only have 200 emails because the 2028 remaining one are in a mailbox named ‘to be read…’ (nobody’s perfect)

We are becoming overwhelmed by emails, seriously…this is becoming a disease. I need to do something, I do not call you, I email or I ping you…The worse is coming with push emails which allow us to check our emails on the move…. This is great for business purposes but very bad for our mental health….

If you have 5mn, i would bet that you jump on your computer or mobile phone to check emails. How many times you see people in a restaurant and one of them is checking emails, turning the knob of its mobile phone to read the latest news…

We are totally becoming slave of our technologies. We are creating an ultra dependence form of drugs with those emails. Don’t get me wrong, Emails are great but I wish we could be trained on how to use them, how to sort them, what to send or what to answer, when to cc somebody or not… Less than 5 years ago, I used to spend my Friday afternoon just to sort my emails by theme and save them in different mail boxes. in 2008, just forget it ! this would take almost half of my time. The most important are stored, most of them are not.

Mail softwares now propose thread summary views, auto sorting but it will never replace human action. It means that I need to accept to loose time to do it or I need to accept to loose control of my information if I have no time.

In both case, this is a slavery I wish we could disconnect from time to time.

Singapore Mobile markets continues to open up.

During 10 years, Singtel used to have monopoly on Singapore Mobile Communication. From 1997, the market welcomed M1 and StarHub in 2000. As a result, consumers were able to have more choices, more plans, better discount.

However, Consumers had to pay a surcharge fee when switching operators. The new regulation will allow a full mobile portability from this coming June.

Hopefully, similar measures will continue to benefit the consumer over years. In Europe, such a measure already exit for more than 5 years and the regulation continue to evolve to reduce the operator power and monopoly to allow more transparencies in phone bills.
